Market lean

Luis Morales sits on a quiet hold as collectors wait for the Athletics right-hander to iron out his control issues down at Triple-A Las Vegas. With a rough 13.50 ERA and a 2.56 WHIP across 16.0 innings prompting his option, hobby buyers have no reason to chase raw singles or numbered parallels right now.

Overall market

Heading down to Triple-A Las Vegas after the Athletics optioned him to sort out control issues, right-hander Luis Morales leaves behind a rough opening 2026 stretch. Through 5 appearances and 2 starts covering 16.0 innings, his ERA ballooned to 13.50 with a 2.56 WHIP, issuing 14 walks against 13 strikeouts.

Manager Mark Kotsay hopes the 23-year-old arm can regain his confidence in the minors following a much sharper 2025 campaign where he logged a 3.14 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 48.2 innings.

Collectors browsing the 2026 Bowman Baseball Red RC checklist find raw singles trading for pocket change as market flow remains quiet. Sold comps drift lazily on BIN listings, with buyers content to hold off until the right-hander straightens out his command in Triple-A.

Hobby takeaway

Hold off on chasing his 2025-26 Bowman Chrome Red RC parallels until the control profile stabilizes in the minors.

Performance notes

Recent roster movement for the Athletics sends pitcher Luis Morales back to Triple-A Las Vegas to iron out command troubles. During his cup look with the big league club, the right-hander logged 16.0 innings across 5 appearances and 2 starts, working to a 13.50 ERA while collecting 13 strikeouts.

About

Luis Morales is an absolute powerhouse, electric 6'3" right handed starting pitcher who escaped Cuba to become a marquee international phenom. Signed by the Oakland Athletics for a massive, record-breaking international bonus, Morales rapidly climbed through the minor league system by overwhelming professional batters at every stop. He successfully forced his way to a big league call-up by weaponizing a devastating front-of-the-rotation pitch mix. Morales features an effortless, elite fastball that consistently sits at 97 to 99 MPH and tops out at a blazing 102 MPH with high vertical ride. He couples this raw power with a sharp, hard-biting slider and a fading changeup that completely neutralizes left handed hitting.

Key notes: 2020: Set the Cuban National U-18 record with 161 strikeouts in 82.2 innings; 2024: Named an MiLB.com Organization All Star (Led the system in pitching runtime velocity); 2025: Promoted to the Major Leagues, logging his highly anticipated MLB debut; 2026: Maintained Red Rookie Redemption eligibility while solidifying a frontline rotation slot.
